Site Of Interest
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The site of interest this week is for all of you who love to fill
your site with statistics. At http://www.pewinternet.org/ you can
find a number of freely published reports on topics concerning an
amazing number of Internet usage statistics and trends. If you're
looking to find out how people really feel about spam email, news
online, how people use health sites, or just about any other big
topic online, Pew Internet can probably help you out. The company
is a non-profit organization who states that their main goal is to
create and fund original, academic-quality research that explores
the impact of the Internet on children, families, communities, the
work place, schools, health care and civic/political life. The Pew
Project aims to be an authoritative source for timely information
on the Internet's growth and its societal impact, through research
that is scrupulously impartial. The statistics and trends reported
through Pew Internet have been used by many major companies who's
names you would recognize instantly. I've often wondered how most
of the big companies get the statistics that they report in their
sales materials, and although many of them generate data of their
own, they often compare their data to the information available at
Pew Internet to determine if they're on the right track. Basically
if you're looking to use some credible stats on your site, this is
one place you can always count on. They don't seem to mind others
using their stats as long as proper credit is given, so go ahead
and bookmark this site for use the next time you have to use some
statistics and trends in your marketing or sales materials.

3 Words That Pull Orders Like MAD!

by Larry Dotson

1) Use the word "free" in your ad. People want free
incentives before they do business with you. They
could be free books, accessories, services, etc. For
example, you could say. " Free shipping with every
order over $50!" Another example would be,
"Order within the next 5 minutes to get 3 extra
bonuses free!"

2) Use the words "you/your" in your ad. People
want to know that you are talking to them. This'll
make them feel important and attract them to read
the whole ad. For example, you could say, "You
could be the winner in our next contest!" Another
example would be, "You are experiencing the
benefits already, aren't you?"

3) Use the word "new" in your ad. People want
new products or services that will improve their lives
like new information, tastes, technology, results, etc.
For example, you could say, "Learn a new
revolutionary way to lose weight!" Another example
would be, "New! Just Released!..."

What Are They Thinking
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Why doesn't the average person realize that they are contributing
to the spam problems. Hold on, before you jump down my throat, an
incredibly high number of you have played your part. We send many
newsletters each week, and it amazes me how many people will send
in a spam complaint about our newsletter after subscribing to our
newsletter of their own free will. I'm not saying that spam emails
aren't a problem, and that many of us aren't flooded with them on
a daily basis, but why are people so quick to report every little
email they get as spam? If a message has a clear remove link that
contains either a specified series of numbers, or has your email
address in part of the link, you should at least give the link a
try. The majority of companies out there are legitimate, honest,
and aren't looking to send email to people who do not want to get
it. An email isn't spam if you forgot you subscribed, or just due
to the fact that you don't want it anymore, it's only spam if you
never asked to get it in the first place. If you do not remember
subscribing, but the email appears to be legitimate, why not give
the owner of the company the benefit of the doubt? Do you really
think you remember everything you've ever subscribed to over all
of your years online? I know that I don't, and I'm willing to bet
that many of you don't either. I know that many sources say that
you shouldn't click on remove links because that simply validates
that your email address is real, but that is just plain stupid.
Spammers don't care if your email address works, and any genuine
company won't send to you again if you just remove. So, if you're
reporting email that you might have subscribed to as spam, what
are you thinking? How would you feel if it happened to you?
