Site Of Interest
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The site of interest this week is http://www.eff.org/. I know that
a good number of you have probably downloaded your share or music
files over the past few years, and that might have you worried a
little bit. I'm sure that others of you might have noticed that a
pretty large company is hijacking unused domain names and common
misspellings and using them for their own gain. Yet others might
have one of the DVD copying programs that is being ruled illegal
by many courts. What does all of this have in common? All of the
items mentioned above are currently in a raging legal battle that
deals with electronic freedom. If you are wondering about any of
the legalities behind technology in the news, you will absolutely
love the site of interest this week. This site is filled with so
much useful information that you could easily spend a few weeks
just browsing. Have you jumped on the blogging bandwagon? If so,
did you know that there are several legal issues relating to any
blog that could land you in hot water? I'm really not sure what
else to say about this site that won't be extremely clear when
you make your first visit. This site is not put together by your
average group of amateurs, this is run by an organized group of
lawyers who have real insight into the legalities of just about
everything. Go ahead and give this site a visit and be sure that
you add a bookmark for use at a later date. Even if you are not
in any legal trouble right now, or aren't at all worried about
your actions online, there may come a time when you are.

JUST WHAT IS A WORLD-CLASS COMPANY?
By Michael Angier
As we begin to promote the next World-Class Business
Conference, I seem to be getting more people asking me what I
mean when I say "World-Class Company".
I suppose it could mean different things to different people.
But allow me to share what it is for us. This list is far from
complete, but in reading through this description, you'll have
a pretty good idea of our business philosophies and what we
mean by World-Class.
A World-Class Company . . .
. . . is not necessarily a global company, although most any
business--even a small one--can have a global impact if not a
global market.
. . . uses 21st century business strategies based on
time-tested principles.
. . . has the ability to last at least a hundred years. It's
an organization that goes beyond its founders and can endure
the inevitable changes in the market.
. . . is principled, on-purpose, value-driven and profitable.
. . . is one where its mission is not only known and
articulated, but also demonstrated day in and day out by all
employees.
. . . is flexible in its strategies but steadfast in its
mission, values and principles.
. . . is an excellent steward of all resources.
. . . is authentic and distinctive--it knows what business it
is truly in and is committed to being the best in the world at
it.
. . . exemplifies stability; it's dependable, trusted and
solid.
. . . has impeccable character and always operates in
integrity.
. . . is responsive, resourceful, adaptive and innovative.
. . . recognizes that its people are its greatest assets, that
its bottom line is created by its front line.
. . . always does what's right instead of just what's
expedient.
. . . creates higher profits through higher service.
. . . already has or is developing the resources, strategies,
practical ideas and tools needed to achieve extraordinary
success.
. . . is a good neighbor and responsible to the community it
serves.
. . . is a great company becoming better.
. . . communicates effectively to all stakeholders.
. . . creates breakthroughs on a regular basis.
. . . . is customer-driven--delighting in meeting the needs of
those it serves and consistently over-delivers on its promises.
. . . exemplifies excellence in every area.

What Are They Thinking
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It's really true, a sucker is born every minute. I can't believe
that there are still people out there who willingly reveal their
passwords or credit card information through bogus emails. A guy
I know runs a recurring payment site that uses PayPal as the main
payment system and every week he gets another cancellation. It's
not that the service is bad, or even that the people want to say
good-bye to his system, they are forced into cancellation due to
their own stupidity. Every week this business owner is losing a
few clients who are closing their PayPal accounts because they've
just were tricked into giving out their account information. I'm
not sure how often it has to be said before it finally sinks in.
Never reveal your password. That is posted on every site that is
using a password authentication system, but people still fall for
it every time. Why in the world would people do this? What could
they possibly be thinking? Again, there is no site that uses any
type of password system that would ask you for your password in
an email, not now, not in the future, not ever! I think I'd find
myself in a mental hospital if I had to deal with customers who
revealed their information to scammers, I'd just go crazy! There
is no way I'd be able to reason with these people, or even to get
close to understanding why they did it. It almost give me a stress
headache just trying to figure out what was in minds of the idiots
when they were filling out the forms that sent their bank account
and personal information out to the scammers. I have to end this
now, I just can't understand what in the world these people could
possibly be thinking!
